Caring for Your Lashes – Pre-Care, After Care and Cleansing

Just Got Last Extensions Or Thinking About Getting Them Done?

Taking proper care of your eyelash extensions is essential if you want to keep the curl and lift intact. That’s why I always make it a point to brief my clients about the before and after care of eyelash extensions to ensure their longevity. And even though there is no way you can control your natural lashes from shedding, I am going to be sharing with you some maintenance tips to ensure that your lash extensions stay on as long as possible!

Pre-Care

Before Care Instructions for eyelash extensions: Before you come in for your lash appointment read carefully and follow these guidelines to ensure long lasting eyelash extensions.

  • Arrive with a clean face – no makeup; this will minimize the ‘clean-up’ time and allow more time for applying the extensions.

  • Avoid the use of water proof mascara 72 hours prior to your appointment.

  • Avoid using mascara, moisturizer, eyeliner or contacts when you come in for your appointment. It’s important that your eyes are clean of any traces of makeup.

  • Avoid using oil based makeup remover to clean your lashes before you arrive for your lash appointment.

  • It is advisable to wash your hair/shower the night before or the morning of your appointment to avoid the lashes from getting saturated.

  • Refrain from drinking caffeinated drinks to avoid jittery eyelids.

  • Be sure to plan ahead for the procedure which will take around 60-90 minutes.

  • You are welcome to bring their own music with headphones. I suggest relaxing calm music, as this is a relaxing beauty treatment.

After-Care
Proper maintenance is extremely important to make your lash extensions last longer! Be sure to follow these instructions to maintain your extensions.

  • During the first 2-4 hours, do not allow your lashes any contact with water. The water will counteract the adhesive and your extensions will fall out.

  • During the first 24 hours, do not use a cleanser on your lash line.

  • During the first 2 days of your lash extensions, do not use the spa, tanning bed, sauna or steam.

  • Avoid waxing, laser treatments and chemical peels around the eyes.

  • Avoid rubbing your eyes or picking/pulling on your lashes.

  • Maintenance of proper hygiene is important, therefore always keep your lash line clean and only use a foaming cleanser to wash your lashes.

  • While wearing lash extensions, I do not advice my clients to use an eyelash curler and though heated curlers are safe to use, they are quite unnecessary since the curl should hold.

  • Do not use too many oil based products and eye creams around the lash line.

  • Avoid using mascaras.

  • Go in for regular refill appointments every few weeks to maintain the fullness of your lashes.

Cleansing

Only use a oil-free cleanser around the lash line to keep your eyelash extensions intact. Using a lash brush or your fingers, slowly make small circles to thoroughly clean the lash line. Once you have cleaned your lashes, rinse of the cleanser and allow the lashes to air dry for 5-10 minutes before using a clean lash wand to fluff them up.

After-Care: YUMI Lift,  Elleebana Lift

  • Do not rub your eyes

  • No heat, steam, saunas, water, oils, lotions, cream, shampoos, face washes, makeup remover wipes or pads on lashes for 24-48 hrs.

  • No swimming

  • No mascara

  • No sleeping on your lashes (side and face sleepers) as this can cause shape shifting leaving the lashes misshaped. Sleeping on your back is best!

  • Remember to comb your lashes upwards!

  • The right aftercare is necessary to obtain the best results.|
